Welcome to week 3! LSL: This Wednesday (1 st May) I will be taking 4 Long Service Leave Days and heading over to Melbourne. I will be back to school on Tuesday 7 th May. Maths: Measurement: This week we will continue to look at Time and the conversion between 12 and 24 hour time. Number: This week we will continue to look at multiples and factors. English: We are well on our way to learning more about the Marri Tree and studying the writing genre of Information Reports. Currently we have placed a focus on its structure, where to find and how to identify quality information resources, how to note-take using key information only and then how to form a well-structured introduction. From here this fortnight we will continue to work on our body paragraphs, highlighting specifically paragraph structures; writing topic sentences, fact elaborations and linking ideas with useful conjunctions! A big week of learning ahead. Character Strength: Judgement St Alphonsus left his career as a lawyer

If you have anything that requires more discussion, please feel free to contact me. Headphones: Can you please make sure that your child has their headphones in class everyday. We use them on a regular basis, so it is important that they are in the room. Holy Week: This is the most important week in the Catholic calendar. We will celebrate Holy Week after recess at the school hall on Thursday if you would like to attend. 11am start. Kaya Year 5 parents. Good afternoon, I hope you have had a great start to your week. It is mid-term and many people are starting to get tired, but we luckily have Swim Carnival this Friday and Monday off to recuperate. Homework: Please support your child to complete their reading each night and mental maths practice....sometimes playing games with the relevant times table is good fun too! Please make sure that homework is brought in on Tuesday of week 6. Swim Carnival: A note came home just a few weeks ago regarding swim trials (they were last Tuesday) and the upcoming Swim Carnival (Friday).  All information regarding the carnival is in that letter, but students will leave school on the bus at 8:45 so please ensure that you are on time. They will need to be self sufficient with food, snack and water as there are no canteen facilities.  Students will then return to school, leaving at about 1;40 to ensure they are back and organised for any buses. Monday Public Holiday: Just a reminder

Kaya Year 5 parents, Firstly, thanks for all the support you gave your children over the last two weeks of swimming lessons.  All Year 5’s behaved beautifully at the beach and this has been one of the best years of swimming that I have been apart of. Should any students complain about swimming lessons.....just remind them there are many things they could be doing rather than swimming somewhere like this..... Whiteboards: We placed A3 whiteboards on the booklist last year. Unfortunately, there are a number that have not come into the classes. We will be using them nearly every day for Spelling and Maths, so if your child has not brought their whiteboard in as yet, could you please chase these up as they are another great learning tool. Display Folders: Similarly, we placed a number of display folders on the booklist in place of exercise and scrap books.  This was done to save paper, minimise gluing and provide the opportunity for these folders to be used across a number of years.  Unfor

Kaya and Welcome to 5D! Well, it is nearly the end of the summer holidays and time to return to school.  I hope you have been enjoying the break with your families and are well rested and rejuvenated. STATIONERY: Please ensure all stationery and folders are labelled with your child’s name on them to ensure they don’t get lost throughout the year. This also includes all personal items (hats, drink bottles, lunch boxes, uniforms, crunch & sip containers, etc) belonging to your child are labelled to avoid losing items! You would be surprised how often we find a rogue shoe around the place...especially during swimming lessons! Students are welcome to bring in spare stationery items at the start of the year. We ask that they are in a ziplock bag clearly labelled with their name. We will have tubs for these to be placed into for the students to replenish their pencil cases as required throughout the year. Please remember to also bring in 2 boxes of tissues to get us through the wintery
